What is the difference between 3D ultrasound, 4D ultrasound, and 5D ultrasound?

A 3D ultrasound is a static 3-dimensional image of your baby, or in other words, a 3D picture and 4D adds the dimension of time, allowing you to see the baby move around in 3D. It’s like looking at a photo vs. watching a movie. 4D Ultrasound allows you to see your baby yawn, smile, and move around in the womb. 5D can also be referred to as HD. This is the newest technology and is 4D but uses applications to bring your baby even more to life on the screen!

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services. You may book online through our Acuity booking app.

How long does the ultrasound take?

Our 4D ultrasound sessions last anywhere between 20-30 minutes. Plan on spending between 30 minutes to an hour at our facility to allow time to edit and print photos.

Can I bring my friends and family?

Yes. Our ultrasound room holds up to 6 people comfortably. However, we can squeeze in more if need be. We don’t have a limit as to how many people you can bring. Children are also welcome. We have a toy box filled with toys and coloring books to keep them occupied.

How can I prepare for my appointment?

Be sure to drink plenty of fluid (no caffeine) starting 24-48 hours prior to your appointment. Hydration is the key to getting good images. Being well hydrated increases and clears up your amniotic fluid and that is our window to see the baby. You DO NOT need a full bladder.

Is the 4D and gender ultrasound covered by insurance?

No. Insurance does not cover elective ultrasound scans since it is not intended to be a replacement for your diagnostic ultrasound that your physician orders. We do accept all major credit cards, debit, and cash.

Is it safe? What are the risks involved with ultrasound?

There is no known risk. Extensive studies over 35 years have found that ultrasound has not caused any harmful bioeffects to the mother or the fetus. Diagnostic (and elective) ultrasound is a safe procedure that uses low-power sound waves.

What if my baby doesn’t cooperate?

We will do everything on our end to help the baby cooperate to get good images; that includes having you roll on your side, drink cold water or juice, and eat something sweet like chocolate. If the baby still doesn’t cooperate after about 20 minutes, then we will have you reschedule and come back at no charge for a redo. All redo sessions must be scheduled Mon-Fri between 9-4 pm. Any redo sessions that are done after hours or on weekends will be charged a $35 service fee. Redo sessions are not offered for sale packages or specials.

If I have to cancel, will I get a refund for my deposit?

If you cancel your appointment at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time, we do give a refund for your deposit if we have not yet scanned you. If you “no show” for your appointment, we DO NOT give refunds. We do NOT give refunds on Bundle deals if it’s the second or third session.

Do I have to have a doctor sign a release form?

No, your doctor does not have to sign a release form, but you do have to be under a doctor’s care. If you have not seen a doctor in your pregnancy, we cannot see you.

How many weeks do I have to be to get a scan?

Hear the heartbeat package requires you to be at least 7-8 weeks along. Sometimes, we still can’t see at that point but are more than happy to try. If you want to look earlier than that, we would be happy to take a look, but if we can’t see the baby yet, you will have to pay again to come back next time.

Gender reveal requires you to be at least 14 weeks EXACTLY. We will not look before then. Sometimes, we still can’t see you at 14 weeks, and we will bring you back free of charge one time to recheck for you.

3D/4D/5D: We can scan you at any point in your pregnancy. Keep in mind that the baby will be small/skinny before 26-28 weeks. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t adorable! You can come in multiple times throughout your pregnancy to watch the changes as your baby grows. There is no cutoff when we stop doing the 3D/4D/5D, but after 34 weeks or so, the baby starts to become harder to see due to position and space in the womb.

How far along should I be before I have a 4D ultrasound?

If you plan on having only one 4D ultrasound examination, we would recommend having the examination performed between the 24th and 32nd week of the pregnancy. However, excellent images of your baby can be obtained anytime after about 22 weeks of pregnancy.

I am having twins (or triplets). When is the best time to come in for a 4D ultrasound?

The best time for a 4D ultrasound when you are expecting twins or triplets is after 22 weeks along. We want to ensure that we can get images of all babies in the 4D ultrasound, so the appointment may take twice as long. Schedule accordingly and call us for more information.
